Threading Inserts

Kingdon Threading Inserts are indexable carbide cutting tools designed for external and internal thread turning​ on CNC lathes, Swiss-type machines and conventional screw-cutting lathes. The line covers 60° V-profile (ISO metric, UN), 55° Whitworth (BSW), 29° Acme, 30° trapezoidal (TR), NPT/NPTF pipe threads and round-profile styles, available in right-hand, left-hand and internal-bore configurations.

Unlike continuous turning, thread cutting is a multi-pass interrupted operation​ with constant flank contact and high radial force concentration at the insert nose. Kingdon threading grades use fine-grain carbide substrates with PVD TiAlN/TiCN coatings-optimized for edge sharpness, crater wear resistance and heat dissipation during repeated flank engagement. Precision-ground chip grooves and flank relief ensure consistent pitch accuracy and surface finish​ across the full tool life.

Why Threading Is Different - And How We Address It

• Interrupted-cut toughness: PVD-coated fine-grain carbide resists micro-chipping at thread crest/root entry-exit points, critical for stainless steel and alloy steel threading.
• Directional chip evacuation: dedicated L/R-hand chipbreaker geometries guide swarf forward or backward​ away from the growing thread flank, preventing re-cutting and thread damage.
• Pitch & profile precision: ground-thread inserts hold ISO 2857 / ANSI B94.50 tolerance class; polished flute faces reduce built-up edge on sticky materials (austenitic stainless, nickel alloys).
• Multi-start & partial-profile options: single-tooth full-profile for guaranteed form accuracy; 60° V partial-profile for flexible pitch coverage with fewer SKUs in distributor inventory.
• Internal threading capability: compact insert bodies (e.g., 11/16″ shank series) fit small boring bars for thread diameters down to 6 mm.
