Kingdon General Turning Inserts for Cast Iron are indexable cemented-carbide cutting inserts developed for continuous and interrupted turning of gray cast iron, ductile iron, malleable iron and alloyed cast materials on CNC lathes, conventional lathes and machining cells. Built on fine- to medium-grain tungsten carbide substrates with CVD Al₂O₃-based multilayer or PVD TiAlN-type coatings, the series balances edge toughness against abrasive wear from graphite and hard carbides in the workpiece.
The program covers ISO-standard negative and positive insert styles - CNMG (80° rhombic, roughing/semi-finishing), SNMG (90° square, heavy interrupted cuts), DNMG/WNMG (55°/80° triangular, semi-finishing), TNMG (60° triangular, 6-edge cost-efficient finishing/light roughing), and CCMT/TCMT positive geometries for bores and thin-wall castings. All items comply with ISO 1832 insert designation and fit standard global toolholders.

- Carbide grades tuned for K-class cast iron: high-temperature hardness + impact resistance, optional CVD thick-Al₂O₃ route for gray iron high-speed turning or tougher CVD/PVD route for ductile iron and skin/scale intermittent cuts.
- Cast-iron-specific chipbreakers (GM/GF-type or equivalent): wide land, controlled negative chamfer and open groove shape to handle brittle short chips, reduce cutting force and avoid built-up edge.
- Multiple edges per insert (4-edge CNMG, 6-edge TNMG, 8-edge SNMG/WNMG) lowering cost per cutting corner for distributors and end users.
- Tight sintered tolerance, precision ground flanks, consistent coating thickness and color inspection under Kingdon's 20-year carbide supply system.
- Available uncoated, CVD-coated and PVD-coated; neutral / left / right hand; radius 0.4 / 0.8 / 1.2 / 1.6 mm.
