1. Manufacturing
In the manufacturing industry, tungsten is widely used in the production of cemented carbide. Cemented carbide is an alloy material made from a hard compound of a refractory metal and a binder metal through a powder metallurgy process. Tungsten cemented carbide exhibits a range of excellent properties, including high hardness, wear resistance, strength, toughness, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. Its high hardness and wear resistance remain essentially unchanged even at temperatures of 500°C, and it maintains a high hardness at 1000°C. This material is widely used in the manufacture of tools such as knives, drill bits, and saw blades, significantly improving tool life and cutting efficiency.
2. Electronics
Tungsten also plays a vital role in electronics. Due to its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, tungsten is used in the manufacture of electrodes and heat spreaders in electronic devices. Tungsten filament is also used in the filaments of light bulbs. In early incandescent lamps, tungsten filament served as the filament material, producing a bright glow when energized. Although technological advancements have gradually replaced incandescent lamps with more efficient lighting, tungsten filament still has a certain application value in electric light sources.
3. Aerospace
The aerospace industry places extremely stringent demands on materials, and tungsten's high melting point, high strength, and high hardness make it a crucial component in aerospace. Tungsten and its alloys are widely used in the manufacture of key components such as rocket engine nozzles and gas turbine blades. They withstand extreme environments such as high temperatures and high pressures, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of aircraft.
4. Chemical Industry
Tungsten compounds have a variety of applications in the chemical industry. For example, sodium tungstate is used to prepare certain dyes and pigments; tungstic acid can be used to produce high-purity tungsten powder and materials; and certain tungsten compounds have catalytic properties, accelerating chemical reactions. These applications not only enrich the product range of the chemical industry but also improve production efficiency and quality.
