What Makes Deep-hole Drilling Different from Standard Drilling
Deep-hole drilling (typically depth-to-diameter ratios exceeding 5:1 or 10:1) operates under extreme thermal and mechanical stress. The cutting zone is enclosed, making chip evacuation and cooling the primary failure points . Kingdon's deep-hole drill inserts are built around four non-negotiables: aggressive chip-splitting geometry, high-pressure coolant compatibility, high-toughness substrates, and precise guide pad integration.

Geometry Logic (not grade talk)
- Chip-Splitting Edges: Unlike standard drills that produce long, continuous ribbons, our EOMT and MOGT series feature multi-facet geometries that break chips into small, manageable segments, preventing nest formation inside the bore .
- Coolant Channel Synergy: The insert geometry (including the specific Φd and thickness T) is designed to work seamlessly with high-pressure through-coolant holders (up to 100 bar), directing fluid exactly to the cutting edge to flush chips and reduce heat .
- Guide Pad Stability: For Gun drill and BTA applications, the insert's relief and angle ensure the guide pads carry the radial load, keeping the drill on center and ensuring bore straightness (±0.02mm/100mm) .
- Toughness vs. Wear Resistance: Deep holes expose the insert to cyclic shock at entry/exit. ZZKD grades prioritize substrate toughness to prevent micro-chipping, especially in interrupted cuts or alloy materials.
